Just floating along whichever way your life has turned you? Or are you driveing a boat down the river of many channells directing and turning whichever way you choose? When life tries to force you into a cove.. of shallow water?.What do you do to get out? Sit there and wait for flood or push it back into the river and use a paddle if you have to?

  1. No, I am a sailing boat

The water (or life) is a very powerful force. It is best not to fight constantly against it but to use it to your advantage. If the current is moving in a good direction, get into it and help by paddling or sailing and making progress. Only move against the current if you have the strength to do so. When the current becomes too strong take shelter or anchor. Constantly make decisions and be prepared to change you plans if the weather, winds or currents don't suit. Plan early. If shallow water is ahead, think about your options. Don't rush.

  2. I was peacefully swimming in the river of tranquility, and a speed boat motored over me... repeatedly.

I've learned to just take the pain, I like swimming too much to stop.

  7. 'x is just drifting along, it is but time before the sinking' - comment on Year 8 school report. My family considered that particular teacher to be a limiting stereotype. Parents found a better school.

  9. I observe the weather and the current with a watchful eye and try to be prepared for sudden and unexpected changes.  Sometimes I allow myself to just float along with the current, because that can be peaceful and therapeutic, but my rudder and sail and oar are always ready.  The currents, tides, winds, obstructions, other boats, all affect me, but I try to navigate around them and use them to the best advantage for me and for those around me.  I try to anchor only in safe and calm and secure waters, always mindful of the possibility of a change in wind, but if I have to anchor in the open, I take all possible precautions.  Sometimes things get away from me, sometimes I get into difficulty, sometimes I am just too tired or otherwise involved to do things the way they should be done, but then I try to remember those life sailing comrades who have helped me in other stressful times and get strength from their influence and memory.  Most importantly I stay in the river, and try to happen to it rather than let it happen to me.

  10. I've been stuck on a sand bar for a few years with weeds growing around me.
