I'm getting old, but back in the days I had more than forty amature fights, including international compition. The politics in the sport kept me turning pro. For the past three decades I've probrably been to two dozen world championship fights.

Boxing use to be everything to me, but now days it seems to be the most ignorant sport that there is. Come on man, two grown men trying to kill each other, what is that suppose to prove?

This friend of mine is a former three time world champ and he invested his money well with a very sucessful business. But most retired fighters aren't that fortunate. Did you notice that I just eased by the "politics" part of it all? So are you losing interest too? If so then why? Please, no smart a$$es.

  1. Boxing is not for everyone so is ok you are losing interest but i love it as much today as anyday ..... but there are other sports i dont watch as much either, like Football, so i know where you are coming from.... i was actually pretty good and had a chance to further my playing days in college, but i sure did like the ladies and partying more ... But now i feel the same way about Football as you do about boxing.. In foot ball, pretty much 75% of the players leave with lifetimes injuries like arthisis however maybe not as severe as Ali or others like him... but football has been showing more and more young men dying from Heart Attacks or Respiratory Conditions that it makes one wonder which is worse... But i agree the dangers of some sports fars outweighs the fame and fortune one can gain ....h**l people even join the army

  2. I think this is a very interesting question.

I've thought about it a lot.

The two factors I've decided are part of a diminished interest in the sport are: Bad decisions when a fight goes the distance. It gets hard to take when often two fighters prepare hard for a contest, give it their all, and then the judges' scoring is baffling. The other is a lack of compelling boxers (I guess the eighties spoiled me.

  3. Wow, 1993 called, it wants your opinion back.

  4. its hard not to lose intrest in boxing i am a die hard boxing fan but when the heavyweight devision fell apart that hurt me i prefer watching bigger fighters super middle weight and up all the politics in boxing and the way that a champion can maintain while only fighting 2 times a year is a joke mma features alot of hungry fighters that want it soo bad i dont think guys in boxing are as hungry as they used to be

  5. If you are loosing interest in boxing , more than likely you are loosing interest in life. Boxing is too good to die, or lose interest on. Boxing like every sport makes us stronger as people and in sum as a nation.

It represent so much that even movie stars were born out of this sport, and they actually symbolized our power and so much brother... think again before mentioning it.  Boxing is where you put all your heart to obtain respect not just victory.

  6. Boxing takes too much away from the athletes. Look at one of  the best: Muhammad Ali. He's not in the best health condition.

  7. im an amature boxer and even i have lost intrest in boxing. Thank god for MMA, i think that MMA is evrything that boixng used to be.

  9. I think Americans are losing interest for one main reason: The US is not dominating the "fight game" anymore. Sure, there are a few stars out there but, in general, it's non-American fighters that are the biggest winners these days.

  10. boxing is to draining for most athletes so they have to retire early then they get a push in the a$$ and come back washed up and repeat there ignorance its sad really
