  1. if you liked the service and they took care of you well sure you can tip if they did not do not

  2. It is optional but if you go to a restaurant u should always tip, because usually waiters get paid like $3 and make their money off of tips. Even if the service was bad try to give something probably not what they deserve because i know waiters remember faces and the next time u come it might not go so good. As for Hotels i would only tip if their helping me with my luggage.

  3. in a restaurant, absolutely, since waiters' minimum wage is lower specifically because they get tipped. i disagree with the other guy about maids- i always tip them

  4. no you are not required to give tips to all services done. in some places the owner don't want you to give tips, says it's part of the person's job. but a tip says'   THANKS' for a service well done. if you feel like tiping go ahead, if not OH WELL.

  5. I'm pretty sure the tip is optional compared to the amount of service you've gotten. So, if you had really bad service, I don't think you're required to tip. Although it's probably really, really appreciated if you did!

  6. you should tip at sit-down restaurants. I don't usually tip at places where you pay at the counter and pick up your own food (i.e., starbucks, even if they have the tip jar out on the counter.) I usually tip at hotels for consulting the concierge, helping me with luggage, and I usually leave the maid a couple of bucks, or 5 if I made the place a complete mess. (You have to think about the maids - they usually don't get paid well and see some scary sh** along the way.)

Real Simple has an awesome guide on tipping that I've consulted more than once. http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/con...

  7. Always give tips in retaurant.  Not in hotel unless person personally brings bags to your room.  Never tip a maid.
