If not Why? I was wondering if those in the field or realm of medicine and others might be setting the example.

  1. I'm on for organ donation, but not marrow donation.

  2. I cannot do either, as I am a leukemia patient and stem cell transplant patient myself.

First, thanks to all those who are.  My stem cells came from the public marrow donation program.  Without the program and donors, I would not be alive.

THere are a lot of misconceptions that top the reason list of why people do not.

With organs, the biggest reason is that they think docs wont try as hard to save you, or that they kill you to take the organs.  And that stems from people not understanding the process.  Most organs have to be taken while the blood is still circulating, and some people see that as killing.  Ofcourse, these are also the people that would leave a loved one on life support for years hoping for a miracle.

With marrow donation, people have the misconception that its painful and dangerous.  Most people dont know that you are under general anesthesia, or that most of the time today they do the donation with peripheral blood stem cells rather than actual marrow.

When I was looking for a donor, everyone I knew asked if they could be tested to see if they were a match, but not one signed up for the registry.  Very Sad.

When I die, my body is being donated to the medical school I have been treated at.  Its already set up.

  3. I am on the organ/tissue donor list.  I have thought about the bone marrow donor list but haven't signed up for it yet--haven't made up my mind--I have heard it's painful and I'm a big wuss.

  4. yes to both.

  5. I am an organ donor, I personally have no use for my body once it gets to that point, so why not let someone else use it. I also wish to be cremated, I think a lot of people who want to be buried would like to keep their body in tact.

I am not on the bone marrow list right now, but plan to sign up when I can. Just a matter of paperwork I suppose.

  6. no im not

because when i die i want my bodie to remain in one peice but if i matched someones bone maro when i was alive i would donate it

  7. I am on the international bone marrow donor list.

  8. Nope, I'd give to them if they were willing to pay for it.

  9. I am willing to become an organ donor. My sister has an improved quality of life (a life period) after received a new pancreas and kidney last year (diabetes that ended with E.S.R.D. tat needed dialysis).

I am not a bone marrow donor. There is a maximum weight, which I exceed. If it were not for that, yes, I would be on the list.

  10. yes i am.
