I'm in year 11 in Australia and thinking of being a dental assistant after year 12 and i would like to hear of what you think of your job and some of the good points and bad.

Is it better working in a public or private practice?

long or short hours?

good pay?

  1. The great thing about working in dentistry at any level is it can be made to fit whatever types you like.   You could be part time,  full time,  child dentistry,   elderly dentistry,   braces,   surgery,  anything you like.

There are some great avenues you can take in public and private locations,   they both have some upsides and downsides.     The pay ranges from good to excellent depending on what type of dentistry you work in,  (braces & surgery are higher)   and the location you do it.

  2. i worked in nhs and private surgery and enjoyed both, you do get more money for private, but sometimes the patients are more snooty!

i got my qualifications while working and my boss paid for my tuition fees, so that was great

. i found the work very interesting, you will be very very busy dashing around the surgery, but its a great job x*x good luck

  3. Where are you?

    England?

Theres alot of money to be made in a private practice, Go to your local college and see which route you will have to take to get there.

    Good luck :)
