Personally I think its overrated and a complete waste of time

and besides if the planet warms up by a few degrees I'm sure we can cope with it.

PS they are only saying turning off the lights what about not driving our SUV', not using unessary appliances for an hour would be a better bet.

  1. One hour of turning off the lights will have no practical effect on CO2 emissions, but it is a) symbolic and b) a great 'marketing ' technique to increase people's awareness that there is a problem and they are part of the solution.

  2. uh?

  3. I think I'll run every appliance I own, and let my motorhome idle for an hour or so. I do need to burn off some of the $188.00 worth of gas I put in it Friday....p.s., I've been using fluorescent light bulbs since before Al Gore came up with a way to fleece the American idiots that love him.

I've since gone back to incandescent bulbs.

  4. No - this is just a feel good psychology that does nothing for the problem.

It isn't going to raise any awareness, as home with lights out is the same indication that no one is home.

  5. I will be participating, and actually they do mention turning off appliances if you actually read the website.

At least some people are trying to help out.

    Better safe than sorry.

  6. Well personally, I think that Earth Hour is good. It not only raises the people's awareness that our planet is heating up, but also gives them the motivation to do something about it. You might say that if the planet warms up a few degrees, you 're sure that we can cope with it, but the fact is we cannot. If all the people in the world have that attitude of allowing the planet to warm up by a few degrees, and not change their ways, the earth will warm up by a few degrees multiplied by the number of people who didn't care, totaling to a hefty sum of degrees. Switching off your lights for 5 minutes might not help, but if everyone does it, I 'm sure some energy will be conserved, at least letting Earth rise up by a few degrees much slower.

  7. I plan to participate by turning on all of the lights in my house, setting the heater to a comfortable temperature and taking a long hot shower.  Then I'm going to microwave up a batch of popcorn and watch a movie on my DVD player.  If I get bored, I'll drive my SUV to the bar and hoist a few, but if I do, I'll have to take a cab home and then take one back the next day to get my Hummer.

  8. I hope it gives people who believe in AGW the opportunity to feel better about themselves and hopefully distract them from trying to force their socalistic ideology onto those of us who just aren't interested.

  9. yes

its attempting to raise awareness. turning a few lights off for an hour is not going to reduce CO2 emissions that much but getting people to make small changes to the way they live can make a big difference.
