If so, how often does this occur? Why do you think this happens to you, considering the rules of the road are that passing should be done on the left lane?

  1. Passing me on the shoulder, it has never happen to me....passing me on the right while I am in the left hand lane, it happens but it is no big deal and it happens because people cant wait, they are in too much of a hurry..

  2. In the US, passing on the left is the best option on the freeway because the driver has a better view (and feel) for traffic.  Overtaking on the right is legal where marked, but a little more risky for the opposite reasons.  The driver being passed has a bigger blind spot on the right and the mirror on the right is parabolic. This may cause the driver to misjudge the location and speed of the passing vehicle.  Exercise caution in both positions.

  3. no. it doesn't matter what lane you are in you are to make sure the lane you want to move into is clear before making the move. to many people think everyone else should get out of their way.

  4. People driving too slow to keep up with the flow of traffic should be in the far right hand lane.  That way you won't be passed on the right and also won't be obstructing traffic!

Driving too slow and obstructing traffic should be a good defense (legal and justifiable) for someone shooting at you on the freeway.

  5. sometimes I get passed on the right while on the freeway (i call it a highway)  usually because I just passed someone going really slow, and the other person couldn't wait the two seconds for me to pull back over, so they slip between me and the driver i just passed and fly around... very stupid move, and very dangerous.

Sometimes I pass on the right with traffic around here (i live in jersey near philly) so sometimes the left lane might be backed up a little bit and the right lane is moving.  That's really the only time I pass on the right.

People around here are idiots, they pass on the right shoulder at intersections or whenever someone is waiting to turn.... I can understand if i'll be waiting forever to turn, but they just fly around even when i'm in the process of turning.  ugh!!!

  6. Well, most states indicate that slower traffic is to stay to the right. Some even go so far as to also indicate that you should pass then get back over to the right lane. I get sooooooooo irritated by these jackass' that hog up the passing(left) lane!!! take your slow butts and keep it on the right. I recently had a jackass riding my bumper in the passing lane and I was going 20 mph over the speed limit. I tapped my break to give the jackass a hint to back off and he wouldn't go around. then I finally got over and he slowed down and the passenger mooned me. This was in OH on I-75 Southbound on my way back home to TN. My hubby said he felt like throwing his coke bottle at his pimply nasty butt! What a bunch of pricks!

We usually go 10 over the speed limit to keep up with flow of traffic. It wouldn't have been so bad but, we had our 19 mo. old son in the back seat of course. I understand your frustrations I've also seen ppl pass on the shoulder when there's gridlock so, they can get off the next exit. CRAZYYY!!! PPL ON THE ROADS...  Safe travels...

  7. Where I live (Alberta, Canada), if there are two or more lanes travelling in the same direction, a driver may pass on the right if it can be done safely.

I wouldn't recommend it because just as you are about to pass a driver on hisher right side, he/she might just make a right lane change to get out of the "normal" passing lane, and could hit you.

Many drivers don't shoulder check just before lane changes, which causes a lot of crashes too.

I would only pass on the right, with a great deal of caution, after following a driver who won't change back into the right lane for a long time.

  8. Doesn't happen too often, but people now days drive too fast.
