  1. I'm in the states in NYC and I have Time Warner and they don't charge me for HD channels. Any channel that is included in my package that has a HD version available, I get the HD free... I love Time Warner Cable

  2. Not if get "freesat"

    http://www.freesat.co.uk/

  3. Yeah it's a luxury add-on for most TV providers. Although, after the digital swichover, freeview are looking to provide some HD viewing for free. But when they do this you will need to buy a HD freeview box to get it.

  4. HD is a 'luxury add on' to most broadcasters.

Freeview will not carry HD until the digital switchover is completed.

Free sat carries some HD for BBC & ITV only but if you want the full package then you pay extra for it with sky or cable

  5. Depends, some service providers will give you some HD stations at no charge to tease you.  However, yes you have to pay.

In the future HD may become mainstream, once it is you probably won't have to pay extra, thats only given when networks convert from Standard Def to High Def signals.

But, the only tv conversion thats coming up is Digital, so it may take some time before HD is a new standard.
