  1. I think for tourism the monarchy do a great job & long may it continue & I look forward to Her Speech on Christmas Day

  2. Anyone old enough to remember our Queen as a young woman knows that she has been a remarkable and consistent benefit to our country.  She is a courageous woman with a strong sense of duty.  Her family have let her down in lots of ways but show me a family where this isn't the case these days.  I am not keen on Charles but feel that William will be a credible king one day.  God Save the Queen!

  3. I like the Royals!

  4. my opinion is..do away with them!..thing of the past

  5. Abolished ;-)

Or at the very least taxed!

  6. ye i think the monarchy is a good thing and should stay forever.......however i do think they need to become more involved in the running of our country.

  7. personal opinion is that everyone is the same and equal. we all have our own talents and abilities that separate us.

we shouldn't rule each other. monarchies should be ended. they don't even represent the people directly. it's a useless manner

    of ruling.

  8. yes they are great

  9. The British Royal Family ran out of credit when Queen Anne died in 1417. Then they scoured the titled families of Europe, to appoint an heir. George I, was in fact 53rd in line, but the others had all been catholic, which is a big no-no, so we had the Hanoverian line, who were German.

The next major farce occurred, when, the current Queen's uncle abdicated.

Then, instead of calling a halt to the whole outdated thing, his brother was rushed in to take up the reins.

So, we have a German Royal Family, who conveniently changed their family name in 1917, who sidestepped the line of sussession in the years before WW2, and we are asked to be proud.

    I don't think so.

Why don't they go off to the commonwearth countries for a decade or two, and let someone else have the privelege of guarding Their Royal Highnesses, and their entourage of sycophants.

  10. they're a great marketing tool and earn us millions in tourism - difficult call - I'd like to see the sums

  11. What have they ever done to make people "proud" of them?. They are an embarrassment to the U.K. and those who say they are good for trade and tourism what figures have you got to prove that

  12. get them tae f**k

  13. As a native Englishman, and British Subject, it is my birth-duty to support the Crown.

I served and swore an oath to serve and protect the Crown- many of my family bled, were maimed and died fighting for the Crown- so I take it very seriously.

Not to mention Prince Philip is a war-hero.

  14. There is some middle ground you know...

I support the continuence of the monachy -- wihtout it we would have had Blair and now Brown as our head of state!

And that would have been too terrible to consider!

  15. yes they make Britain great

  16. I am very proud of our Royal Family and think they do a fantastic job

  17. I completely support the Queen as Head of State and would hate a sleazy politician to replace her.

As for cost, it's clear to me that some people do not know that the revenue from the Crown Estates goes to the Treasury, who then fund the formal activities of the Royals.  Nobody works harder than the Queen, Prince Philip (who are in the eighties) or Princess Anne.  Prince Charles has done so much good with the Prince's Trust for which he does not get the credit he deserves.

I think that Charles has a great act to follow but I am sure he will be a good King, who is more in touch with the people of this country than the Prime Minister!  I am not sure about Prince William though. He drinks too much (as does Harry) and has a tendency to yobbishness which we could do without.  He needs to grow up and accept responsibility as opposed to just being a playboy.

As for those who want a Republic, perhaps they could put forward rational reasons as opposed to spite and class hatred.

  18. Abolish it, we don't need them and they don't run the Country, save us all money and get rid!

  19. If they went it wouldnt be the same.  Im neither here nor there.  Cant say I am loving them but they are just there and I wouldnt like that to change I guess.

  20. they are the cornerstone of Britain take them away  & we  are the same as every other country

  21. I've always detested parasites in any form!

  22. Which Royal Family?

  23. most kings and queens of Britain have been inept and some stupid but i would prefer the system we have where state and politics are separate over the system where the head of state is a politician. If people look for a better alternative i doubt many would find a better system than the one we have

  24. i am not proud of them ican live without them but they have there sordid uses

  25. I support the idea of monarchy. The constitutional monarchy we enjoy is an effective safeguard against tyranny and dictatorship (Think President Brown!)

But this does not require admiration of the Royals as individuals. I am actually proud of the Queen, I think she is a fine monarch, but some of the younger Royals just need a slapping!

  26. I think they are good for 1 thing-boosting the tourism trade.

  27. Why should it be one extreme or the other?

How about - now most are off the payroll, they all pay tax and that the revenue they bring in from tourism is of a huge benefit to our economy therefor keeping them is the sensible thing to do.
