  1. well I work for a cable company for years and know the ins and outs.

    i would not pay for cable(mine is free) but get the free converter box from the gov. and see what you can get free.. it will be only local channels but if you check it out I pick up about 15 channels free a nd clear.  It does matter how far you are from tv tower and it doesn't matter what antenna you use( more db may help though . ones that are powered). today they have names like high def. but they are the same tv rabbit ears( if its indoors or out) that is the old uhf/vhf signal.... digital or not the signal is the signal..  almost all digital signals run off of uhf... some are on  vhf

    lastly if you have an actually  digital tv tuner built in the tv( they all have to have them by law now)  there will be no problems but even if you have a dig. or high def tv  there is a difference between  dig. ready and one that has the dig turner. dig. ready means you will still need separate tuner that will convert( dig ready ony) . these are the older high def. tvs as I said they now must have the turner built in.
