in order to use a yamaha shs-10 keytar as a midi controller, what macintosh program can you use?

  1. The Yamaha Keytar - or any MIDI instrument - can be used with many Mac programs...

    Cubase, Digital Performer and Logic are popular choices and all have MIDI "sequencers" incorperated in them...A MIDI sequencer is a program designed to record, edit and playback MIDI commands...Each of the mentioned programs also have the ability to record, edit and playback full audio, as well...Other options are ProTools, Logic and Ableton...There's also a good deal of "freeware" out there...

    To interface your Keytar with the computer, you will need a MIDI Interface - this will connect the MIDI out port of your Keytar to the USB (or serial) input of the computer...If the Keytar is the only MIDI device you wish to connect, a 1x1 (1 in, 1 out) interface is all you should need...You can probably find them for around $30...If you have more devices to connect there are interfaces that support up to 8x8 with up to 128 channels...
