Are you required to have a passport to travel to CANADA from U.S or can you have just have drivers license?

  1. On June 1, 2009, the U.S. government will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI.  The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card, or WHTI-compliant document.


  2. You must have a passport to travel to and from Canada by air. This rule has been in effect since 2007.

  3. Since January, 2007 you have needed a passport for AIR TRAVEL between the two countries. A drivers licence will suffice for ground transport until January, 2009.
