  1. bicycle:

    c = pi x D

    c = 3.1416 x 27 = 84.82 in = 7.1 ft traveled in one rotation

    Clock:

    c = 2pi x r

    c = 2 x 3.1416 x 6 ft

    c = 37.7 ft traveled by the minute hand

    37.7 / 12 = 3.14 ft traveled by the hour hand.

  2. One turn of the wheel is equal to the circumference of it, so calculate that first:

    c=pi*diameter (or 2*pi*r)

    c=27*pi

    So the bike travels 27*pi inches with every turn. (approx. 84.82 in.)

    We'll assume the hour hand of the clock reaches to the edge of the circle, and we'll call 6 feet the radius. Again, find the circumference of the clock:

    c=2*pi*radius

    c=2*pi*6 = 12*pi

    The hour hand travels 12*pi ft. in one hour. (approx. 37.70 ft.)

  3. 1. 27 pi inches -- just under 85 inches.

    2. 6 x 2 pi/12 feet = 3.14 feet.
