And if so can you still rough it or do you take the RV? Just tried a four-day camp experience and it almost killed me with the packing, unpacking, repacking, etc. What are your experiences as seniors?

  1. I haven't quite gotten over my frontier days of camping.

  2. We used to take the RV out.  Can't really call it camping.  But now the gas is too high.

  3. I hate camping...

  4. I "camp" in hotels.

  5. I do a lot of camping but have a small camp trailer now sure beats setting up a tent, I keep every thing I need in the trailer and haul the rest in my camp van that I use

  6. Well i love going camping and the open fire and the smell of fresh cooked coffee and bacon and eggs and hash browns. Then get in the boat for a little cruise then fish a spell and if ya catch him theres lunch and if not cook something easy then maybe a nature trail walk in the afternoon and then at sunset set and watch the pretty waves along the shoreline and the sun going down and ahhhhhh yes i lov to go but i do think if you walk each day it helps to keep you in shape and ready to go.Some folks enjoy swimming also and i like both so works for me happy campin

  7. I'm a Motel / Hotel person myself. An RV wouldn't be too bad, but a tent....no. I know this sounds silly but I keep hearing about bears joining in on the camping trip. Can't handle that.

  8. I camp every summer and I rough it.  The packing, unpacking, repacking doesn't matter so much when I get fishing, sunsets while still swimming, tubing, laughter and stories around the campfire complete with s'mores.  Having the same raccoon rip me off for my cookies every year is such a thrill.  I buy myself a pack, and bring him a pack of fudge striped shortbread cookies.  I welcome my neighbors and friends and camped there with my husband every year before he died.  I still try to get the same spot every year and camp with my dog and everyone else who shows up.

  9. I hate camping!  Actually what people call camping today is not camping but taking your portable bed and socializing. it's to much work!  Camping is taking only your sleeping bag and a little food  and roughing it which I have done plenty of times and that's why I hate it.

  10. We still go camping a lot. We have a 5th wheel camper we use too but we have spent a few days in a tent with sleeping bags. Some places a tent is all you can use. I love camping and cooking out on an open fire. We have done this for for 30 years. Our kids loved it and still do.  Poppy

  11. Nope, need to stay nearer to medical facilities.

  12. Yes but no one has gone camping in almost two years.

  13. Guess I am still able but I'm sure not willing to go camping.  My idea roughing it would be a motel without a swimming pool.  Sorry, but I am fond of comfortable beds, flush toilets and warm showers.

  14. Ha! My late husband and I used to do primitive camping when we were first married  -sleepingbags, Coleman stove, food and water. Then as the years went by we got more and more gear, and had to laugh. Then we called it comfort camping. That included a tent, mats for the sleeping bags, and loads of other stuff, including all our fishing gear. I understand perfectly how you feel, but to tell you the truth, the primitive camping days were the most fun!

  15. Yes Shar! We are!  for a few days... we take a truck with a covered back... air mattresses to sleep on and bring wood for the fire.  we cook right in the cans we open, the kids love it, and the corn right in the husk, potatoes deep in the pit over night.  as far as liking it, my time is running thin...I go to make the memories for the boys! I have them from my child hood! so will they! Just watching the kids and the dogs play is plain Joy!

  16. I love going camping when I can. I will not go alone as that is no fun, or at least I don't think it is. When I was going all the time, I always had a boxes packed and ready to go. I would always had a box with pan, pans and utensils. I had a box with the food, one for the towels and bathing suits. All the camping stuff is kept all in one spot. I do love staying in a tent with the sleeping bags. I love to rough it, hey that is what camping is all about. When I would get back from my camping trip, I would always wash what had been used and replace it clean and ready for the next trip. One thing that I always did when I was on one of my camping trips was have me a note pas and pencil, then while I was there, should I think of something that I would like to have or need, write it down and then the next time I would have it, such as clothes pins, line, axe, etc. We always have an extra tent set up so that we can store all our camping supplies. But since I don't have any one to go with any more, I don't go now.

  17. Just finished a 4 mo. trip around the U.S. and Canada..We have a 5th Wheel, so we call it relocating..I could no longer tent or back back camp, but am no way ready to give it up..We started in a tent in about 1962, worked our way through 2 tent trailers, 2  5th wheels and have a new 5th wheel on order now. Hopefully we will have 10 more years of seeing this great Country.

  18. I like camping as long as there is a neon sign   that says  vacancies, and there is room service

  19. We still rough it but most all of our friends have RV's.

I have a chuckwagon kitchen box and a large wooden staples box that stays packed. When I return home I check to see what needs to be replaced in the kitchen box and repack staples box with fresh bath and kitchen towels.

They only thing that has changed is that we now take along air mattresses.

Wood is kept in two large plastic trash cans with lids.

If we are on the motorcycles we take a sleeping bag, trail mix, bottled water and pray we can sleep on dirt and not rocks.

  20. I used to like camping, but we've switched to boating, and still get to sleep in our nice soft bed at night!

  21. Yes we do, but no more tent-and-sleeping-bag nonsense. That's no fun anymore. We take a camper. I don't do public showers -- ew! So take a camper equipped with a bathroom, AC, fridge, and TV -- those are the necessary luxuries of camping!
