Question:

Are you still friends with benefits if you don't have s*x but you "mess around"?

I was reading through answers and a lot of answers to similar questions said things like "if there is not s*x you are just friends." Is that really true? Because wouldn't messing around (making out for instance) still mean benefits?

  1. id consider any sexual, flirtin, and/or romantic, act be under the benefit category.

  2. friends with limited benefits

  3. Well, its definitely a benefit for your partner, so yes it still friends with benefits.

  4. I would still consider that FWB...

  5. Yes it would still be considered benefits because your still doing more than just normal friends would do.

  6. I would say yes

  7. What does it matter what you call it?

Does everything need to have a title?

Unless you are in a committed relationship or married, I would say titles mean very little.

Friends with benefits, or just friends... sounds the same to me. I say who cares?

  8. Having s*x is a higher level of taking or giving benefit. Even without s*x, (which is mental  through physical engagement) you both are gaining mental or psychological benefit and you must  continue the friendship.

  9. I would consider that benefit.

  10. Definitely. No "ifs" "ands" or  "buts"

  11. Yes.

  12. I disagree with: No s*x = Just Friends

Whether you do or don't have feelings with someone you're messing around with, it's still more than friends.Friends don't do that, unless you're in some country where... friends do do that.

I'm sure there's some kind of line between friends and more than friends.

Maybe if you've been friends with someone, and then you mess around, but then you stop... I guess if you stopped messing around then you'd just be friends. If it continues though then of course you're being more than just friends, whether there is a word for that level of a relationship or not.

I'm sure it's also possible to do dirty things with someone frequently or infrequently and be "less" than friends (Almost like the relationship between someone and a prostitute? x.x).

I personally think, if you're doing things with a friend and are attracted to them for who they are instead of just sexually, you're probably in some kind of relationship. The term "boyfriend" or "girlfriend" doesn't need to be used to describe a relationship that is equal to or even better than most boyfriends/girlfriends.

Also even if you don't do anything sexually with someone yet you feel pretty strong in some way for each other, then you're probably in a special relationship even if you don't say you're both going out.

I think I'm getting kinda off-topic though X.x, but yah um... Messing around is definitely more than friends, even though nobody can really declare how relationships should work, the term "friend" is pretty solid and you're totally going more than friends if you're doing... something. :o

Friends with benefits indeed. Possibly even if you did have s*x maybe it could still be friends with benefits, unless there is another word for that,

    Extra benefits? =P

  13. I would say so since there are still some "benefits" to gain from that friendship that would otherwise apply to a relationship

  14. Yes messing around is still friends with benefits.
