Someone mentioned to me once that a professional is still his job when he goes home. For example, a doctor leaves the hospital and is still a doctor, a scientist the lab and is still a scientist... what do you think about that?

  1. I am a nurse, and when I go home, I'm still a nurse. When I'm at a restaurant and someone coughs, I look to see if they are choking. If there is a wreck on the road I am professionally obligated to stop. If there is an emergency I wonder what can I do to help. I have skills not everyone has and feel as though I am obligated to use these skills to help others.

  2. I think that my vocabularly and demeanor loosens up a bit when I'm not teaching, but when I leave I go home and continue to do work to plan for the next day.  I'm passionate about what I do so I talk about it a lot when I'm off the job.

But I think for some jobs you gotta leave your job at the office.  Like can be to stressful, and stepping away from the job allows you to relax.

  3. i don't think that u should be proffessional at what u r doing. u just need to be true, efficient and dedicated to ur job. tht helps people know how u r totally into ur job. doesn't need to be too perfect but correct enough is enough. this shows others that if u r dedicated, then u will finish the job with accuracy.

  4. No...I leave my job at work.  (I'm a flight attendant)

  5. Once you become something it remains with you no matter what else you become later... UNLESS the section of you which retains that knowledge is lost.... Alzheimer's, physical brain damage, THC, ... or any other way you might lose the know-how to be that professional....

So yes, when you go home you may be a father, mother, husband, wife, son, daughter, friend, fry-cook, or whatever... you remain what you are professionally.

at least that is my view,,, ;-)

  6. If you like your job, you can't take it off like a coat. I'm retired and I still apply my job to many situations.

  7. yes for some:they identify themselves by what they do

no for others:they really don't care about their job

  8. I definately think we still are professionals at home, maybe wether we know it or not. Our experiences in the workplace impact the way we act and treat other aspects of our lives.
