Are you suposed to pay for community service?

My tutor wants me to pay him for community service.

Is your tutor providing service through a school or university, or ordered by the court, or a program organized by a nonprofit organization or church? If yes to any of the above then NO to being paid, and you need to report the person to whatever organization he or she is working through.

Otherwise, your tutor is not volunteering but, rather, providing a service he expects to be paid for -- and that should be negotiated BEFORE he begings working.

When community service comes to mind, one thinks of helping others by giving your time and energy to a worthy cause, and doing a greater good for your community.

Not doing a greater good for your tutor's wallet.
