Are you suppose to stop/slow down when the pedestrian hand appears?

That one red hand that appears when it means that the people shouldnt cross the street anymore. I keep telling my mom youre not suppose too but im not even that sure.

i think, im not really sure but i think you have thirty seconds to  finish crossing but you shouldn't start crossing if it starts flashing. you aren't supposed to cross if its not flashing.

When there is red, people can walk and cross the roads while green, they are supposed to wait at the end of zebra crossing for crossing. But they can walk in the direction of traffic. Most of the people follow traffic rules. If not, then the problem comes to the driver if to stop or continue driving. Depending on the distance, driver may choose to continue driving. But if people are close, then it is safe to stop because it could risk a life and also your license.

Yes you should just because first many people walking cant read and second a 4000 pound vehicle cannot be compared to a 150 pound person.

No you are not required to slow down, but it doesn't hurt to be aware of any pedestrians or bikers that are crossing in a hurry anyway, considering that ever since the cell phone came out people just don't pay attention to things going on around them anymore. Look twice save a life man.
