Are you suppose to tip your vendors?

Are you suppose to tip the DJ, photographer, and videographer? And if so, how much???

i didn't tip any of my vendors. i just paid them the set fee that we had agreed upon before, and that was it.

I think it is really up to you if you want to tip them or not.  I know my family and I usually do.  Especially when they are doing a great job.  My fiance is a DJ, and there is times that he doesnt get tipped, but then you see it as....ok they've already spent alot of money, the last thing they want to do is give away some more.  But like I said, if the DJ is getting the crowd pumped up, and you are just having a blast, then go for it!!!!!

Generally it's considered good taste to tip employees of companies with which you have a contract - i.e. the DJ who works for a DJ firm, the servers from the catering company, but not vendors with whom you have contracted directly - i.e. the independent photographer.

Many contracts include a "tip" in the price, so make sure you watch for that: avoid double tipping unless you want to increase the tip. You don't need to give more than $150 in a top to anyone, but use the 10-15% rule. And remember - a tip is for good service. If they act unprofessionally then you are not obligated to tip the same way that you would if they did a stellar job.

I don't understand why people are "supposed" to tip vendors.  They charge hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars up front for four to eight hours, yet there's an expectation to pay them again.

In the end, it's up to you.  They're not going to hurt if you don't give them another 15%, but it just might blow your budget.

Really, the best "tip" you can give it to tell everyone you know how satisfied you were.  Better for them if they get more a few new clients than a few hundred more dollars from just you.
