when i watch athelets on t.v. it looks like they're not breathing when their sprinting and they keep their mouths closed- does this mean that they're actually holding their breath or are they just breathing through their noses? i run the 100m & 200m.

can anyone explain to me how to breath while sprinting please!!!

thanks

  1. You wont get very far if you dont.

  2. I'm a sprinter and you breathe but not as much as other races. While your running, take quick breaths. The 100 and 200 races are over before you think about breathing so practice on it so it comes naturally.

  3. yes breath!!!!  in through your nose, out through your mouth.  some people actually don't breath when they sprint, but if you aren't getting oxygen to your muscles, they aren't getting the right nutrients, and you aren't going to be as fast.

  4. Yes, You are supposed to breath.

  5. Nope.. I should say you shouldn't breathe too much while you run coz' while you're running, your muscles are already consuming energy and while you run you tend to breathe faster thus consuming more energy and making you feel tired and giddy. If you try to breathe the least.. You wouldn't be as tired as you would be when you would've been breathing the whole track. So better dont..

  6. I think they breathe in through their nose and out through their mouth, well at least that's what long distance runners do.

  7. you breathe but take fewer breaths.

breathe in your nose, out your mouth

take a breath, hold it for like 3seconds, exhale and repeat.

go all out on the 200, and do the same thing

you don't wanna hold your breath then faint before you finish the race do you :P

  8. I've never heard of anyone having trouble breathing. Since sprints are anaerobic it won't hurt if you don't breath within the first 50m, but there's no reason not to.

  9. Eh??? If you don't breathe you'll collapse!

  10. hey.. im no pro at this

but im sure you can search up for further info on the internet

basically, when you sprint you need a quick resource of energy

and your body does this through aerobic respiration which is basically a reaction that takes place that breaks down glucose and water to give you energy.  but when your running - this reaction takes too long so your body breaks down sugar anaerobically which simply means without the presence of oxygen.  this is why during a short sprint you dont tend to breath normally and after the sprint your muscles are sore from the build up of lactic acid a product of anaerobic respiration :D

  11. when im sprinting the 100m i tend not to breathe

i tend to breathe more during a 200m race though oviosly hahaha

its really hard to breathe when your running fast

ive actually tried to breathe while running a couple times and it takes up to much effort

so during a race i will breathe about once around the 60m mark

its better the less breaths you take

and yes athletes breathe through their noses while racing

the force of the air into your throat gets bad breathing through your mouth

    hope that helps
