  1. I have tried to cover my birds cage before, but the birds seemed to scared of the sheet.  I think it is really up to you if you think your birds will do better with one or without one.  So far my birds didn't like it, but yours might prefer to be covered at night for warmth or lighting reasons.

  2. I think u should. You don't have to but I do that. I keeps them warm, makes them feel secure and it keeps them from getting cold because of the wind. Your budgie could get a cold if you do that for a long time. They also cannot sleep that well because (if they're inside) they might see dark objects and then they will  get frightened. If it is outside, wind will be constantly blowing on them and they cannot sleep. That will cause stress and it also gets too cold at night. If it does rain, what are you gonna do? The budgie will get drenched in water.

  3. depends on where are are putting the cage

outside in open then no need

inside depends on type of lights etc

  4. It really depends. Some of my birds prefer their cages covered, others don't while some have "night time" cages. Here is a great great article on it and it can tell you if you need to or not;

My parakeets don't seem to need it, my toucan has a night time cage and my other parrots go off of natural light and night time.

  5. Yes it is a good Idea.  At night birds will get what is called cage frieght, this is when there is a little bit of light in the room but not enough for them to see the bars of the cage.  also if you want to sleep in past sun rise the cover will help keep them quite.  my parrot stays quite till I take her cover off and then it is full blast HELLO, HOW YOU DOING BABY and on and on for the first 15 min.

  6. Ohhh yes if you want to prevent death. Birds get real scared from any movement or like a car light from outside the window shining in their cage. They will have a nightfright which causes them to fly around crazily. and if you dont get to them fast then theyre blood feather could get cut off

  7. Theres many pros including:

    1. You get to choose when it wakes up.

    2. I had a bird once and when I went into the room with the cage one night it got a fright and slipped off it's perch injurying itself.

    3. Calms the bird.

  8. It is a good thing to do. It keeps warm air in, cold air and drafts out while also creating a peaceful environment for the bird to sleep in. It will also keep them quiet during the night.

  9. yes you should put a cove or some sort of cloth over the cage it is so it can sleep good at night and to keep it from getting frustrated and tiered

  10. It depends on the room they're in.  If nothing goes on in their room at night and there aren't windows that lights shine through, then they'd probably be fine without a cover.  However, if there will be anyone moving around in the room, then it's better to cover the cage because they'll get scared if they see something moving in the dark and don't know what it is.

  11. The only good reason to cover is if the room is not dark and quiet enough that the birds can get plenty of sleep.  Extended daylight hours in a bird will signal year-round breeding behavior that is exhausting and detrimental to their health.

Some birds have night frights and can injure themselves if they can't see when things move or make noise.

  12. if it is in a noisy room, lights on and off and noise after bedtime then yes cover it becuase if they dont get enough sleep they can end up cranky and stressed leading to medical problems

  13. No, the only thing that does is keeps them quite.

  14. Personally I think it depends on what the individual bird is used to, because if they have adjusted to being covered and you stop, they may have a hard time understanding that it's time to settle down and go to sleep, despite the darkness of the room. However, if they've never been covered and you suddenly start, it could frighten them and upset them. Parakeets aren't as prone to night terrors as cockatiels, but can still wind up startled in the middle of the night (either by a sudden covering blocking the vision they're accustomed to, or the lack of a cover allowing them to see things they never did at night before) and could hurt themselves. Birds aren't truly domesticated and have much of their natural instincts, and in the wild they are prey and there are many night predators out to get them. Night is a scary time for them, so I'd say try it and see what works best for your individual bird/s. Hard to generalize since they all have their own personalities.
