  1. Well it all depends. If they are turned out in a pasture & they are hard to catch, you can leave a halter on but MAKE SURE you get the breakaway halters (the nylon halters with a leather crown) or all leather ones. This way if the horse gets hung on something the leather halter or crown piece will break & set him free & avoid injuries. All nylon halters DO NOT break.

In a stall I would not recommend using one, but if you really have to again I would use an all leather.

Here's a link to the breakaway halter.

  2. Personal preference or barn rules. As stated already, the halter should be leather or breakaway as a horse can get hung up and injured if the halter wont break in an emergency. If your horse is easily rubbed you may like the halter off in the stall and for turnout. If your horse is hard to catch you should leave the halter on. Some barns may require the horse wears a halter incase they need to catch the horse in a hurry. My horse only wears a halter when led in and out to the paddock or hand grazing and a grooming slip for tacking up. Au natural baby!

  3. The horse were not even aware of having it on.

    What do you think?

  4. It all depends on the place you have the horse in, and the halter

    They make break away ones,

But in General I would say NO,,
