Are you supposed to oil a reel's drag mechanism?

When cleaning and lubricating a reel, are you ever supposed to put oil on the drag washers? I have a couple of closed-faced spincasting reels, and the drag definitely won't work right on them if there's any lubricant in the drag, but what about spinning and baitcasting reels?
