  1. if you are out of shape you need to push yourself,no excuses.

  2. In a race..yes. Push yourself as hard as you can.

In practice, never push yourself as hard as you can, but you do want to push yourself as far as emphasizing on form when you are running. Without form, everything becomes sloppy and your running will be hard to control.

Also, the person who said discipline is so RIGHT. Practice 5 times a day, in your target heart rate. When the race comes, you will feel soo much more confident!!!!!!

  3. I think that it depends greatly on the run that u are going on to determine if u push yourself or not. I'm a wrestler and have wrestled for years. i've done highschool wrestling and have gone to camps where i went to them out of shape and left, two weeks later in the best shape i have been in, i was able to run 12 miles straight without walking once. but anyways it depends on how fast u want to get in shape, if u are trying to build up stamina for a fast pace, and it matters on what u are getting in shape for. as a wrestler i ran alot and to get in shape fast u have to push yourself really hard for as long as u can, even if that is for a couple of minutes. if u are doing a really long run push yourself for the last mile or so. if u are trying to build stamina for a faster paced speed always push yourself to run fast for a long as u can. thats my advice.

  4. If you are looking to lower your times yes you should push yourself.

  5. You need to start off slowly and gradually add distance. You do not need to push too hard. If you are not used to exercising, you need to start at a moderate pace. You should be tired when you stop but not like you are going to collapse.

Don't forget to warm up before running and cool down after you have finished. This is extremely important. Stretching is a great way to do this. Once you get going, then you can add more distance as your body builds up the stamina.

Good Luck!  I admire your disclipline.

  6. Depends on what kind of run it is and what the purpose of the run is.

If it's a recovery run, you have to push yourself a little but not as much as when you're trying to build endurance or getting in shape.  If you don't push yourself at all in any runs, you'll probably get nowhere and walk therefore getting nothing accomplished.
