My car broke down and I'm waiting on a taxi to take me to work :( no fun! Just wondering if I'm supposed to tip him something on top of the fare. If so how much? Fare will be about $9.00.

  1. Yes it is customary in the US to tip the taxi drivers. Just as an fyi if you do ever travel to another country and use a taxi ask if the tip is included because in many countries it is.

  2. According to http://www.taxifarefinder.com/, you should tip about 15%.

  3. I would tip him/her a couple bucks.  They do rely on tips.

    Sorry your car broke down!

  4. I would definitely tip a few bucks at least.. Service people rely on tips (I'm a bartender, I know).

  5. Yes. I would say about 15-20%. Sometimes I don't tip if the taxi driver is rude, which has happened to me in Chicago. I was really upset. There was no excuse for his behavior.

  6. 10 percent is the norm.  15 or 20 if it is great service.

  7. Yes, one should always tip a Taxi driver. Depending on his punctuality, etc. tip him anywhere from 15% to 20% of the cab fare. An easy wasy to figure the 15% tip is divide the fare by 10 & then take half of that, then add the two amounts, & there's the tip. If you choose to tip 20%, then divide the fare by 10 & double that amount, & voila.

  8. $1 or $2. If the fare is $9 handing him a ten dollar bill is fine.
