  1. Yes! They need the money.

What's the difference between a ski/snowboard instructor and a pizza?

A pizza can feed a family of four!

  2. I've honestly never heard of that. they get paid by the hour i really don't think you're suppost to do that. ofcourse they'd love it but....i highly doubt they expect it. at least the instructors i know don't expect it.

  3. Do you tip your waiter at a top restaurant?  The instructor is depending upon the customer for his living, each dollar helps them survive.  This is their livelihood and the corporate offices that own the resorts are trying to get every dime they can.  Did the instructor give good value and a show you a good time?  The tip is to show your thanks.

  4. Yes most definitely!  My girlfriend is an instructor and people tip all of the time.  It is proper etiquette to tip for good service in any situation.  They don't get paid much of an hourly wage so tips make up for that not to mention it lets them know if they did a good job.  Now if the service was terrible then don't pay a dime.  Any respectable, responsible, and educated person knows that you ALWAYS tip for good service.  In your case a 2 hour lesson is expensive but throwing a few more dollars his/her way won't be bad.  Just remember the resorts get all of the money you pay for lessons... not the instructors.

  5. No.  It is expensive enough, and they get paid.  No one expects anyone to take their gloves off, open your jacket, get your wallet, to get money.

  6. It depends on if they were any good... if you make some major leaps in your skills because of their attention - then ya I would tip. But a thank you works just a well - after all they are getting paid to do what they love. :) cheers.
