Are you sure that domestic cats don't have striped skin like their fur?

I don't think they do. My cat is striped and I used to get him shaved up until recently. The only places he had hair left was on his legs, head and end of his tail. His skin was a solid color, despite his striped fur.

Yes you can part the hair of a cat and see that it does not have stripes. although dark cats will have dark skin and a light cat will have light skin. the stripes have to do with the end pigment but the roots of most hairs are the same color.
