Are you thankful for community organizers?

I am. "A small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities."

When Gov. Sarah Palin made that statement in St. Paul Wednesday night, community organizers leaped into action to set the record straight.

They got some attention, but apparently not Sarah Palin's. She repeated the zinger today in Cedarburg, Wisconsin.

Many politicians simply don't understand what community organizers do. So here's a short lesson: They work in church basements, synagogues and mosques to empower their communities and make life better for millions of working people across the country.

Because community organizers have taken on these "actual responsibilities," we have them to thank for the 8-hour workday, integrated swimming pools, public transportation, health care for children and safe neighborhoods.

Some politicians may not appreciate community organizers, but I do.

  1. I have never met a community organizer.

I wouldn't even know where to find a community organizer (there are priests and parishioners in my church, none of them are paid by a gov't agency).

The vast majority of Americans have the same experience as myself.

I know my town mayor (I think he's a butt head) but I know him.

  2. I completely agree!!

  3. Yes I am.

But it was a good line nonetheless.  Lighten up--its only the presidential elections.

  4. Sarah Palin is an idiot.  She just found out two weeks ago what the governor actually does.

Obama had a lot of class, saying that her family is off limits.  I guess it's OK for her to take shots at him, but let him say something about her and he'll be sexist.
