Got a few minutes? Rant and rave about the worst/best drivers, and tell me a bit about yer own driving habits...Don't be shy! I am seeking the truth as to why I seem to be the only competent driver on the road... :-) Thanks for your time, folks!

1. What bothers you the most about other drivers when you are behind the wheel?

2. Do you notice local, statewide, or regional differences between drivers? What do you think that those differences are?

3. What brand/model of vehicle do you currently drive?

4. What five words would best describe your personality?

5. What state do you reside in? What is the population of the town, city, or county that you reside in?

6. Do you think that you drive better than most people on the road?

I also have a blog at usatoday.com, posing the same questions, with additional assorted ramblings...

  1. 1. The lack of knowing how to drive.............

    2. Same as number 1.

    3. 1992 Olds 88.

    4. Relaxed, calm, funny, easy going and optimistic.

    5. Texas, over a million.

    6. Yes.

  2. I only have time to answer #6.

YES, I DO drive better than most other drivers. WHY?

    I don't speed

    I don't follow too close

    I let others merge

I don't scream or gesture at other drivers

I don't move out of ANYONE's way (I'm doing the speed limit)

I slow down for red lights, rather than braking at the last minute

  3. I am from MA and they call us "mass-holes"...I can see why now that I commute to Boston everyday. Drivers here at not just aggresive, they are territorial. I feel like I drive with a pack of wolves in the mornings...and then drive home with a flock of drunk geese that just have no idea where they are going- or what they are doing. Its a battlefield here on these highways. I sometimes wonder if NBC will start a reality show about Massachusetts roads- just place a camera in any given spot and be prepared to see some crazy insance knock your socks off real-tv scenarios.

I feel like MA residents- by themselves- are normal humans. BUT place them behind a wheel- and we all turn into some sort of mutant-drivers.

To answer your questions in the simplest form because I have so much to say about MA drivers lol:

    1. What bothers me the most are really two things- people who drive the $80,000 range rovers flying in the breakdown lanes thinking it was built as their personal travel lane/ AND people who go through red lights. It happens so much that when you have a green light- you still have to look all ways!

    2. Yes, the crazier drivers are towards Eastern MA/Boston. Especially around I-95, masspike, and I-93- travel those highways on friday afternoons should be ruled by the FDA as a possible cause leading to death. During stop and go traffic on I-93, I once saw a guy just stop his car- get out- and walk over to another driver beeping at him to beat him up.

    3. I drive a Volkswagen Passat

    4. 5 words to describe my personality- generous, quirky, nervous, dumb-@ss, smart-@ss.

    5. Massachusetts- my town of Westborough has approx 18,000 residents.

    6. I personally think so- I have never recieved a speeding ticket or got in a serious accident *knock on wood*. I am always watching other cars to see what their first move is- you never know when an accident is going to happen. Growing up in this area has taught me so much about other drivers. What I always question is when people say that when its raining everyone forgets how to drive- well all these folks are on the roads everyday- irregardless of rain there are plenty of MA drivers that should not be behind the wheel of anything.

  4. 1) They can't do the speed that's it says. 2) well they don't know our road's or were their at most of the time LOL. 3) I have a 1996 grand jeep LT V8 4X4.

    4)their.

    5) Florida Population don't know to Manny.

    6) I would most of the time I really think I am because most people can't stay on the road or are blind LOL.

  5. 1.  When people pull out in front of you, making you have to brake and then turn immediately.  Driving right up close to your bumper, with there high beams on.  Pushing you to go faster when you are doing the speed limit.

    2.  Yes I do. I always take note.

    3.  Buick

    4.  thinker,  caring,  respectful,  unsure at times,  outspoken

    5.  New York State small town, population: 3,490

    6.  I don't have a big head! I just drive by the rules of the road.

  6. 1.  I can't stand when people are looking all around, gabbing on the cell phone, or shaving, applying makeup or eating.

    2.  There is a huge difference in local, statewide, and region.  In the south (in the US, ex Florida, Georgia), people drive alot slower, they use their turnsignals and such...it's older people...slower paced.  Up here in Michigan it is Auto Mayhem!  16 year old gabbing on cell phones, lots of people in cars, no one obeys the speedlimit...its 70 on the highway people drive 90 like nothing.  Its very aggressive and road raged....in the northern parts of the country and even that state of Michigan...people drive like hillbillys and there is usually no traffic.

    3.  I have a F150 Ford 2007

    4. Loud, Obnoxious, Opinionated, Boisterous, Passionate.

    5.  Michigan, Population 36,559 in the city i live in.

    6.  I do drive better then most people on the road but I too am an aggressive driver.

  7. We all have our moments. No one is perfect and there are no perfect drivers all of the time. I have an excellent driving record. I tend to drive slower and for the road conditions than my fellow drivers. I think I'm smart about it because I don't want to hurt anyone, people or animals. I try to be considerate for other drivers. I get annoyed most by the short-tempered and overly aggressive/dangerous drivers. I have 0 patience and 0 tolerance for those types because I see them as being really stupid and short-sighted. They tailgate, speed and slam on their brakes when they get to close to a vehicle, take many chances and make stupid decisions. Cut off other vehicles to get around. Show no regard to anyone else. Blow red lights and stop signs. Fail to yield to other drivers that have the right of way. Fail to use their turn signal. Cut off other drivers at the last second. Pay no attention or beep or flip off the other driver. They can't admit they made a mistake in judgment or were driving like a jerk.

Aside from this, I'm a laidback driver. I want to get my destination safely above all else. I leave in plenty of time. I just put on some good tunes. If I'm lost then I try to be considerate of other drivers and pull over if I need to or turn around if I need to.  I don't own the roads.

edit: I'm in western Massachusetts.  I definitely drive better than the majority as evidenced by my driving record. There was an article in the paper saying that drivers in my area are terrible and there is a high rate of accidents. The police have harsh words for those drivers. I cannot tell you how many times I've had some jerk behind me drive up really close and look like they are going to hit me when I gave them plenty of notice that I'm going to take a turn. I don't go so slow when I make a turn. I've driven behind those people.

edit: Toyota Corolla LE.  I'm practical and sensible. I'm also responsible. A car is a weapon. It can kill and maim. More drivers like us need to recognize and accept their responsibility.

edit: I'm not sure about the population. It's a small city so maybe 20 or 30,000.  But we have a lot of small towns around us and those drivers go through our area so maybe it's around 40,000 or 50,000.
