I have had both and is currently using cable...  I didnt like Sat because when storms came over you would lose signal and at the time I had it , was more expensive then it is now... I think it really depends on what you want ... Just remember when its all said and  done, people that have sat  will have to go buy the extra stuff to convert where as cable wont...

Dish and Direct have very similar packages/pricing, and DEALS ($100 off/upgrade included, etc).  I think Directv has the advantage with more HD channels and new HD satellite technology and they add more HD channels all the time.  

I have Direct and am happy with it.
