do you understand that in this country of consumers, we are using every natural resource we have at an alarming rate? are you looking for alternative energy sources? would you be interested in converting your house to solar energy?

  1. Yes, once I have the $25,000 that is needed to buy the solar panels and have them installed it will be really cool to save $150 per month on my electric bill.  This is the cost of an average residential system (I have the money but I'd rather save it).

    If you have $25K to spare, and don't care that the break-even point is 13 years (less the opportunity cost of not investing the money elsewhere, so really about 15 years), then good for you, I admire your altruism.  I have done the math (degree in graduate Environmental Engineering) and I don't think it's right for me at this time (Also, I have a feeling that there will be laws controlling how much electricity we can use* pretty soon, and I would hate to have invested that kind of money and have that happen, I'd rather have the $25K to use). But yes I looked at the site (as well as my text-books on the topic) and it's just not cost-effective at this time (even factoring in tax incentives).

    * Remote control of residential thermostats for example
