Question:

Are you trying to Save a Christian in R&S?

I get that some Christians are over the top and try to save others and their questions aren't always questions, but what do you, non-believers, get out of surfing for R&S questions and posting conflicting views or jokes?

Why do you come to R&S? Is it for fun? Are you hoping to make a difference in some way? What's in it for you? Sincere question.

  1. For me it's mostly to discuss matters of religion and spirituality from an outsider's point of view. When I see some ignorant bible-thumper whose doctrine threatens to harm society in one way or another, it's just good will that causes me to step in. Many atheists I know care more about religion than some religious people, simply because it's an interesting phenomenon and it has a very tangible effect on society. Plus creationists are easy targets, and they make me feel intellectually superior.

  2. What's in it for non-Christians?  How about simply proposing a different point of view?  How about trying to get proselytizers off our backs?  How about debate for the sake of debate?  How about blowing off steam in a comparatively harmless manner?

    Shall I go on?

  3. Jesus said I am come to save them that are sick(spiritually sick) & not to save them that are not sick(spiritually sick)

  4. I'm afraid Zane is right.

There's no point in coming here trying to make any sort of difference, because none of you listen to anything we have to say anyway.

So instead, I just come here to have fun.

  5. This is a Religion and Spirituality section. Not a Christian only section. I do it for the jokes, for entertainment, to learn and to teach. I'm a Deist who believes the consciousness of the entire universe is God. I also have a B.A. Degree in Anthropology (Archaeology) and I see a great many questions asked about evolution here instead of the Biology or Anthropology section.

  6. With a question about god with an answer that says there is no god, is that not an answer?  Is this not "Yahoo Answers"?  And yes I am "hoping" to make a difference, however, when trying to get a Theist to at least listen to your points and open there mind, is next to impossible.

  7. I come here to provide answers to those that genuinely want to know. The same reason that I go to any section on Yahoo answers.

  8. I find that it's just one way of keeping myself sharp.

Sometimes I get into a brief discussion with another person and I enjoy that.

  9. I geniunely think that they come here first and foremost to make fun of believers in Jesus Christ. I'm not quite sure where the hatred and animosity comes from. It hurts.

  10. Why wouldn't atheists come to R&S? Atheism is a legitimate p.o.v. on religion and they are entitled to express it.

I personally come here because I enjoy reading and participating in learned arguments, disputes, etc. (there are a few of those here too, although mostly bickering).

I think it's healthy for people to have to defend their positions in arguments once in a while, instead of just preaching to the quire. It gives everyone a clearer view on their own beliefs, even if they don't hear anything that would change their minds, because articulating an idea gives one a better grip on it.

  11. yes
