Are you watching carefully? Is the growing Palin debacle Rove's last masterpiece?

Are you watching carefully?

1. Karl Rove persuade McCain to pick an unknown Christian conservative, with less than two years experience in a state whose entire population is smaller than the city of Columbus, Ohio ... as running mate.

2. McCain has to do this quickly, without proper vetting, under the argument that it needs to be announced the day after Obama's big speech at the DNC (to steal the media cycle).

3. The Dems will (correctly) criticize the unbelievable irresponsibility of McCain for putting someone with the equivalent of a half-term as mayor of an average-sized city, as next in line to become President of the U.S. if MCain's cancer returns. (So much for "the country first"!)

4. Within days of Palin's nomination, all the petty scandals will emerge, some merely petty (like her own Troopergate), some irrelevant (like the pregnancy of her daughter, an unwed minor).

Now watch carefully:

5. It will be the Conservatives and Religious Right who will savage Palin the worst for the pregnancy of her daughter. (And in the process, try to bring up equally slimy details about Obama's background.)

6. But they will blame the Democrats, especially Obama himself ... for this savaging of Palin and her daughter.

7. Obama will continue (correctly) to criticize Palin's dismal lack of experience, and her politics ... but will never mention the petty pregnancy issue. Not once.

8. The Republicans will be "outraged" at Obama for "destroying" a family and attacking her poor daughter ... even though Obama never, ever mentions her.

9. (Special flourish.) This may even be capped by Palin dramatically withdrawing from the race citing "The terrible pressures on her family." (I would not be surprised if this comes this week during the RNC.)

10. Obama is in a lose-lose. Any criticism he launches at McCain for the terrible, irresponsible choice of running mate, is distorted into a petty attack on her family.

  1. yup, you're exactly right!

  2. Ho hum. It doesn't matter.

    McCain in '08!

  3. Well, I'm not sure if Rove is THAT smart. That said, you are indeed absolutely right in arguing that Obama needs to steer  clear of the whole Palin daughter pregnancy. There is no need to comment about it or Palin's inexperience. Both issues will so dominate the media story lines without the democrats even trying.

They should stick to talking about old-man McCain. But I hear you: Republicans here are already attacking Obama for not congratulating Palin, for saying bad things about her daughter...when in fact he DID congratulate her and has yet to make any mention of the bun in the oven.

  4. I think since Palin espouses family values politics that taking her to task about these values and how they relate to recent developments is absolutely fair game. If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen.

  5. Sounds as if you have it all figured out. At least in your mind.

Her pregnancy is a non issue.

Having a candidate like Obama that has so many questionable dealings though? Now that's an issue.

I have YET to hear anyone from the Christian right say anything negative.

  6. I agree except for numbers 5, 9, and 10.

    5.  I don't think anyone is going to rip her to bits over anything having to do with her family.  The far right still views her as their own, and won't want to embarrass her or drive her off the ticket.  The democrats don't need to waste efforts on such things as she is likely to sink herself with her own naivete on the real issues.

    9.  If McCain is one thing, it is stubborn.  Even if she wants to jump ship, I think he will resist it for a while.  She may eventually have to go, but it will be over more substantial matters than the family pressures she has knowingly taken on - i.e. it will be a major problem if she has actually been a member of the Alaska successionist movement.

    10.  I think Obama is in a win-win situation.  He is already taking the high road, and has warned his campaign away from her family issues.  There is no chance that she is ready for this kind of stage and the kinds of serious dilemmas that the US is facing at home and abroad.  To torch her on this stuff, Obama won't even have to unleash the attack dogs - with the exception of Senator Biden who has a legitimate reason to go at her - because she will simply faux pas herself to death.   She will be an albatross around poor old Mad John's neck for the rest of the campaign.  Obama wins because the opposition will be doing non-stop damage control even as he is using his best resources to go after that confused and angry old man.

If people want to go after her about her family, I saw a snap shot of her taking one of the toddlers for a joy ride on one of those neck-snapping 4 wheel mini ATVs, and the kid had no helmet ... the ad writes itself:  "Sarah Palin doesn't even properly protect her own children.  How will she treat yours?"

Lastly, I have to wonder if Hothead McCain really was informed about that pregnancy ahead of time - if not, it would have been cool to be a fly on the wall during that tantrum!

I'm a day behind the news cycle, though, so maybe some of this is moot.

  7. It's not that good, lol. But yeah, that's the point. I just think you're overestimating the power.

Also I look at it more as a "See Obama is still attacking the woman" move than the family.

They're trying to push that Hillary wedge, but they don't know it's almost a nonexistent wedge now.

  8. Good point but I think Obama will take the high road like he has done through the whole campaign.

  9. This question is too silly to merit a reasoned answer.

  10. I don't think you are correct.

  11. Im loving this so so much.

  12. Nothing is beyond Rove/Schmidt, they are truly without conscience.

The shame will be on America if they vote for these pigs again.  8 years of theft, lawlessness, war, deficits and lies is enough.

  13. no, have a nice day...

  14. yeah, ive already brought this up with people, arent the republicans smart as h**l?  lmao.  genius.

  15. you watch the X files alot dont you?

  16. Yes, I can see a lot of that happening.

  17. Rove miss a lot of info on Palin.  Rove is slipping.

  18. This election has got so interesting... it is like there is a soap opera unraveling... =>

  19. I could see rove doing this but I doubt it will work, as Obama has not taken the bait. Plus if the repubs do this it just further alienates there causes. They are already being called out on the gimick factor of this nomination. Remeber this is a Hail Mary pass that is very risky. What this pick shows is that McCain is concerned with his chances. McCain just blinked and everyone with half a brain just realized McCain is on a fool's errand.

  20. Your theory sounds very good, only one thing you forgot. There are more Democrats and independents who are not right winged religious freaks. You just underestimated us like Rove did.

  21. No not that carefully I am not voting for the socialist Barack the Barbarian, murderer of children, that is that.

  22. Obama: Palin has no experience.

    Pot to Kettle: You're black!

McCain is just laughing at you all.

  23. Remember how Rove gave Bush the edge over McCain in 2004 by releasing false information that John had fathered a child with a Black woman, along with releasing the info that Cindy McCain was stealing drugs to feed her habit from her charitable organization and thus keeping them from the children who so badly needed them.

Rove is slime and will have his hands all over this election. Let's hope the American people are smarter this time around than they were in 2000 and 2004, but I doubt it!

  24. You are forgetting one thing. People will ask themselves why did McCain choose Palin...

I don't think many voters will blame any of this on Obama.

  25. No, I haven't been "watching carefully". Because, unbeknownst to sheep (like yourself...baaa....), it's not going to matter who "wins" the upcoming "election". But you wouldn't know that, because you're agood little sheep who will blindly follow party rhetoric.

    Baaaaa....
