Question:

Are you wearing stockings or some other form of leg-wear under your wedding gown?

I just read a knot article (http://wedding.theknot.com/bridal-fashion/wedding-accessory-jewelry/articles/top-10-wedding-accessory-tips.aspx) on wedding day accessories and about half of the tips had to do with stockings. Since I'm wearing a floor length dress I was thinking I would go bare-legged, maybe with a slip if the crinoline is scratchy. Is there really any need for stockings with that kind of a dress?

  1. I didn't see the point of hose.  We got married at the end of May, on a fairly warm day, and I was wearing open-toed shoes, which are much cuter with a pedicure and no hose.  Hose would have been just one more thing to have a problem with.

  2. I'm wearing knee length spanx

  3. Forget the stockings. It'll be hot enough under there without adding an extra layer.

  4. Hosiery beneath your gown will help keep it from sticking to you, they'll help keep your shoes from rubbing your feet (assuming you're wearing some fashionable footwear... and not clogs, mules, flip-flops or sneakers), there's the tradition of the garter toss, where the fellas get to see some s**y leg... as well as the eye candy that stockings and a garter present AFTER the reception when that new hubby helps you out of that dress!  Woo HOO!

Dress appropriately, wear the traditional white lacey garter and stockings... it's a special occassion!!!

  5. I wore footless Spanx- I didn't want completely bare legs, because I got married in the summer and I knew I would probably be a little sweaty, but I didn't want to have to deal with pulling them up all night. No one saw my legs or feet, so it was the perfect solution for me. I was very comfortable!

EDIT: I didn't do a garter toss, so that wasn't an issue for me.

  6. There's never a need for stockings, it's all about your own comfort level. I, personally, will be wearing tights. Yes, I know that not having proper stockings means that wearing a garter for the garter toss is stupid, but it's not like garters are necessary underwear anymore, even if wearing "proper" stockings. I'm going to be getting married in a church, so I wouldn't want to be going bare-legged. With an ankle-length dress I would end up showing some leg.

  7. I'm not.For some reason I have always put a run in all the stockings I've worn. Not meant for me to wear.

  8. well, you dont need them, but if its a cold day, it will keep you from shivering. also, wearing stay-up stockings (not the old fashioned ones) either ones that attatch to modern garters, or just the ones that have grip material to stay up on their own in a silky finish, will make you feel special...even s**y. If they are comfortable on you, they can give you that extra boost of confidence strangely enough! its personal preference.

alot of brides say they that their garter (the lace thing you have on your leg) made them feel like a present waiting to be unwrapped by their new hubby on there wedding day. feeling the garter resting there on the leg was a constant reminder of the special night to come, and kept them looking forward to the honeymoon, not just the day.

fancy stockings can have the same effect...

and will give your new hubby a pleasant surprise!

  9. Ew no. I hate pantyhose, tights, stockings, etc. I refuse to wear any of them, and unless you are getting married in a really conservative church or a law office, you don't have to!

  10. I did not wear stockings under my dress.  No one sees your legs, so what does it matter.  And even during the garter does my husband had his head up my dress, so no one ever saw my legs.  But your right the only reason you might want to is because the slip might be scratchy.

  11. I plan on wearing spanx or some kind of sucker-inner. No stockings though. They are itchy and uncomfortable on the feet!

  12. I wore stockings under my wedding dress for my wedding. You know, the kind with the garter belt holding them up? I also had the big poofy slip to puff out the dress. I was so terribly hot under there! If you want your pictures to look good for the garter toss, I suggest you get your maid of honor to keep a pair of thigh highs for you in her purse, then help you into them right before the toss. That way you can take them off easily right after the toss is over.

  13. I saw no point in wearing stockings or panty hose under my long ball gown wedding dress.  No one saw my legs!

However, I think it's "proper" to wear them.

  14. I'd wear pantyhose. Unless, of course, you are wearing sandals.

  15. I didn't wear stockings. No one cared one way or the other. In all the weddings I've been to, when they did the garter toss, I've always seen bare legs, no stockings. Especially when you can't really wear open toe shoes with stockings, because of the toe line and whatnot, and a lot of shoes are open toe shoes these days. I went bare legged. I felt comfortable, no one gave 2 cents either way.
