  1. Another word for Media - propaganda.  A political stance to control the way in which people think/feel/act.  Even in a democratic society, we are affected by propaganda - why else would most women want to be a size 6?????  Media refers to the transmission of information/knowledge.  In Medieval times, the Lord was the sum of all authority - he had the power to kill/maim/exile someone due to their beliefs.  Athough that level of physical intimidation is no longer enforced (at least in 'civilised' Western Countries), the modern-day Media has the ability to train our thoughts, utilise subliminal messaging, control images to think fun, s**y, 'gotta have that'.  Even people who proclaim independent thought still slide into some measure of stereotypical behaviour - hippies, goths, etc  Is this just a reflection of how people with common thought patterns express their level of understanding?

On the education front, why is it that so many of our literacy classes now use the term multiliteracies?  If it weren't for the power of the Media, why would we teach our children to understand the texts and genres of marketing and the Internet so that they at least know some of the tricks that are used to lure the unwary and unsuspecting?
