Wonder what 'teddy boys', hippies, punks and the first generation West Indian kids in the UK think of the claim today?

  1. they are more stressed these days than earlier, see some statistics of psychological drugs prescribed to children for stress i mean the children below teen age

  2. I think it all balances out. It is just a way to be rebellious. We as adults just see it from the other side of the fence.

  4. They would beat them up

  5. todays youth is much worse than in the past

  6. yes

  7. This question brought back memories. A simple statement posed in a Christian book called the Bible. "Honour thy father and thy mother, that they days be long in the land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee."

What could that mean? Then I thought about it more closely, as the youth, modern youth, those who believe they know it all, those who dishonour and rebel against the teaching of those who were once rebellious as they claim to be; one begins to realize, they are dying faster that their parents and predecessors. Their parents and grandparents, who may have once been the very subject of this question, the youth today, claim wisdom, but use little wisdom dealing with their peers or their ancestors.

It is said, "What you don't know can't hurt you." Observation states this is an idiotic statement: fore what the youth of today don't know can and will hurt them.

I am of West Indian/Caribbean decent, born in 1959; knowing the uneducated and unwise transgressions of today’s youth, I fear for the future of Mankind as a species; fore they have not the wisdom to rule the Earth in Peace.

The stress today is no better or worse than the stress of those earlier years, when these groups fought for every inch of respect, the children of today take for granted. Today's youth know not the dangers faced in those early days, and will never know them, until they ask their parents and grand parents, who forge the path; they now reject and defecate on.

It makes the older person question themselves, "Was it all worth it, to fight for a place in History, which ones children will not and don't  respect?"

  8. I think there is always a tendency of the older generations to 'demonize' youth.  It has been true throughout centuries, not just since the 50's!   BUT there is also a tendency for youth to find ways to challenge adult authority and generally be a pain I the A.   LOL

As far as youth being stressed - I personally believe that youth has become more stressed as societal structure fell away.  Before the 50's a person had a purpose by 18: he or she by then knew how to do an adult's work and had adult repsonsibilities, and could make adult choices.  Now, an 18-year-old still has a lot of maturing to do...

In trying to provide more leisure and luxury in people's lives, we have created generations of youth with a lot of idle time on their hands, and not much real responsibility.  I think it is harmful.  A lack of sense of purpose brings a lack of self esteem and a lot of frustration.  That leads to some bad behavior, not to mention depression.

  9. The youth of today is tressed and demonised whereas in the good old days there was  stress and  demonisation but there WAS discipline, which made a difference to how people turned out. Which made a difference to how they acted in society as well. These days there is no discipline and no lnscentive to behave themselves.

But why? And who is responsible?

  10. They each have their different type of stress.  The USA is very competitive, hence the kids are being pressured to compete.

  11. no jus more lazy because they have more then what older folk had :( so more spoiled and happy

  12. its getting worse indeed.

  13. today's youth is going to be extremely troubled ... at the school by my house, some 2nd graders are going around beating up kids and vandalizing the bathrooms ... 8 year olds!!! jeez ...

  14. being idle, having access to drugs, alcohol and peer pressure is sure going to give you stress and may be demonize you
