  1. The zebra is striped white and black. Their are no layers. It has white stripes and black stripes.

  2. Actually everyone is wrong, they are black animals with white stripes.  If you look at the history of zebra which stem from the extinct quagga you will see that.

Also know that the stripes are not just there to look pretty, they serve a handful of purposes.

1: help the herd blend into a mass making it harder for preds to pick individuals out

2: the stripes on the rump act like a fingerprint which allows the little ones to tell which one is mama

3: the black and white pattern act as a temp regulator, the entire black absorbs white reflects thing

4: they have yet to figure it out, but for some reason flying pests that carry disease do not seem to be drawn to the pattern

  3. i actually just learned the answer to this question today!

they are actually white with black stripes! :)

  4. they are black with white stripes. . . or white with black stripes. there is good reasons for both. black first because of the ancient zebra or their past and white because there are more white stripes than black

  5. there's no black and white answer to this (sorry couldn't resist it).

they are white with black (sometimes brown) stripes.

  6. no one knows.... j/k they are white with black stripes. yep yep yep they are
