  1. It is not an Area Code.  it is a country code...  Only English speaking Islands in the Caribbean + Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Bermuda in the Atlantic and the American Territories in the Pacific Ocean have area codes.

All other places have country codes.

You said St. Martin (as in the island which is an outer region of France in the Caribbean?)

    They would be 011 + 590 + (6 digit local number)

If you meant St. Maarten as in the other half of the same island in the Caribbean which is a part of the Netherlands?

    They would be 011 + 599 + 5 + (5 digit local phone number)

For calls to mobile phones it is 011+ 599-690-local number

    ******** Update --- Ignore above********

Opps.I see now you are in UK.

Timothy B above is correct.  Because "011" was the command only if you were inside the North American Number Plan(NANP)... "011" is what is used for dialing outside of the North American area code system, *when* you are dialing from within..

St. Martin/St. Maarten are not a part of the North American area code system so they don't have a "1" in front of the phone number as you were attempting to add.

From the UK you need to dial *your* telephone networks' International dialing code which is "00" (naught-naught)

    So it would be:

    St. Martin(France)

    "00" + 590 + (6 digit local number)

    St. Maarten(Netherlands)

    "00" + 599 + 5 + (5 digit local phone number)

If you are calling a mobile phone in St. Maarten:

    "00"+ 599 690 + local number

This should work... Sorry for the earlier confusion.

"00" is the outgoing International dialing code. "011" is the one used in the US and Canada for dialing abroad.

Currently the USA and it's territories + Bermuda and parts of the Caribbean use the same area code system which is reached by adding "1" first, the EU has tossed around the idea about using an area code system in Europe with "3" and possibly "4" but, that is still a long way away before Europe implements their own standardised phone number system like the NANP.... So for now- you need to dial as stated above.

  2. If you wanna to call to St.Maarten (dutch side)

      00+599+5+local number

    ex.005995522222

If you wanna call St.martin (French side)

    00+590+local number

    ex.00590511240

That if you are in UK

    Good luck!!!

  3. To call the dutch side (St Maarten) dial 599-54 plus the 5 digit local # (599-5412345)

To call the french side (St Martin) dial 590-590 plus the 6 digit local # (590-590123456)

good luck, I hope this helps) If you were calling from the USA you would add the 011.

  4. If you are calling the french side of the island, you will have to dial 00-596-phone #.

if calling the dutch side, 00-599-5-phone #

00 is the code for dialing internationally from the UK.

596 is the countrycode for the french side of the island,

599 is the country code for the Netherlands Antilles, and 5 is the code for the island
