Area Fifty One in a strong position to claim 53rd John Smith´s Cup
Area Fifty One is likely to win the 53rd John Smith´s Cup (Heritage Handicap) at York in England on Saturday, July 14, 2012. His victory will help his owner earn a cash prize of £97,035 in the class-2 race.
The going will be good in the 1 mile, 2 furlong and 88 yard event, which is scheduled to start at 15:00 GMT. A total of 22 runners have been attracted towards the race and none of them will have any major issues with the track, which will be good.
However, the overall statistics of all the participants clearly show that the competition will be an exciting one, especially at the top of the order. This will make things a little challenging for the punters, as they will be the ones risking money at the
end of the day. One good choice for them could be Area Fifty One, who is a decent performer and has been given a decent starting price of 6 to 1 by the bookmakers.
The four-year-old gelding might be young, but he has gained some useful experience, which will be beneficial for him in the race today. He has participated in a total of 13 events, winning four of them whereas secured the runner up position on five times.
This goes onto show that he has the skills to fight at the front with consistency.
The Richard Fahey’s trainee made his debut in competitive racing back in December 2010. He was priced 25 to 1 in his first ever race and finished in a disappointing ninth place out of 10 runners. This was his only appearance in that season, but he came out
as an improved performer next year.
In 2011, Green Desert’s son proved to be much more competitive and started the season on a high with an impressive victory by eight lengths. He was consistent throughout that year and earned a lot of respect amongst his rivals.
However, the start to the ongoing season was not ideal for Area Fifty One, as he finished eighth in his first race of the year. He came back strongly though and was victorious in his most recent outing. He will be ridden by Shane B. Kelly today.
