All the water in my aparetment is softened and instead of having to go out and buy water all teh time i bought a PUR water filter that hooks to the faucet and also a Britta water container so I use both filters on my water but it still tastes salty and softened.

  1. no, filters get rid of complex chemicals, heavy elements, and such, i think salt is too fine to filter out with normal filters... thats why we don't just see filter plants on the coasts, they are desalinization plants that usually use evaporation

  2. The only way that you can get the salt out of water is either by distilling it or using a reverse osmosis filter.

  3. Brita will filter out some things but not sodium.  You must purchase a much more expensive system for that as described in other answers.  I do agree with a previous post in buying Brita instead of bottles.  This is much healthier for you physically and economically.

  4. thank you so much for buying filters instead of bottled water.

  5. No they do not. Sodium is not considered a contaminent so it is not removed. The most effective and top rated purification system, eSpring does not even remove it.  A basic filter like Pur and Britta definately would not remove it either.

The only thing that would remove it is a distillery. That is becuase it boils off all water and leaves everything that is not water behind, regardless of if it is considered a contaminant at all or not.
