Question:

Aren't Military Ads very convincing?

I've seen a couple, and I have to say, very convincing. It makes you feel like you'll be very smart for enlisting, and you would be! Although I want to be a writer when I grow up, I'm sure the military has a lot of possibilities. Opinions?

  1. Haha yes they are very convincing. But don't believe the hype! The military is great, but some branches are better than others because of how they treat their enlistees. If you are thinking of joining, consult a recruiter from each branch and see what each has to offer. Be warned though, recruiters CAN lie to you! Do research online and try to talk to people who have served in different branches to see which branch seems to suit you. Personally, I have chosen the Air Force.

You can still be a writer in the military too! There are several types of journalist jobs. See: http://www.airforce.com/careers/job.php?...

The military is not all guns and war! Each enlistee is assigned a job almost like in the civilian world.. except each job helps support military life.

    Good luck with your choice!

  2. The only ones I find convincing are the ones for the Marine Corps.

  3. Here is a list of some journalistic jobs in the Army. I'm sure the other branches have similar.

  4. Pennywise I agree. I've always seen those commercials and just thought about what an interesting career choice it is.

As a writer myself, they are good for the book im currently working on :)

  5. Yeah, I guess they are. I completely support our military. Not our government though. I would be a pilot for the US Air Force when I'm older but I really want to be a musician or producer.

  6. I am in the US Army. I did not join because of a commercial, I joined for the education and training that one can obtain via military service. That being said... The military is not easy. Furthermore, the military is not for everyone.

I enlisted after the tech bubble burst in 2001. Coincidentally, one day before September 11th. I was job hunting and my research led me to military service. Since then, I have become debt free, and am three classes from completing my degree. I finished my original enlistment, and reenlisted for another four years. This was after serving 14 months in Iraq. On a side note, don't believe everything you see on TV or read in the NY Times. If you want to judge, go there yourself.

I have lived in Japan, and Italy. My son will go to college free thanks to the Montgomery GI Bill. There are certainly possibilities within the military. The Army Public Affairs Office is a great place for aspiring writers.

I now have seven years experience in electronics specialized in microwave systems. In 4 months I will have the degree to match it. If I decide to leave the military, I am highly marketable, and very well trained. However, I have not yet made the decision to leave.

Possibilities? You have no idea just how many there are.

  7. Yes, very convincing.

  8. The government spends millions on these ad campaigns, so they had better be convincing!

Remember, "Be All That You Can Be" to "An Army of One" to "Army Strong".

They should go back to the original.

These ads are directed mainly toward working class people. Usually these people have few resources.

They are more than likely, average students.

People join the Army to be a part of something larger.

    These ads are appropriately addressed.
