  1. He was not much of a talker but a great writer, and I do believe that he saw the world we have today very clearly for the warning he gave are as valid today or more so than they were then...

If the American People ever allow the banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers occupied. The issuing power of money should be taken from the bankers and restored to Congress and the people to whom it belongs. I sincerely believe the banking institutions having the issuing power of money are more dangerous to liberty than standing armies.

We are completely saddled and bridled, and the bank is so firmly mounted on us that we must go where they ill guide.

The dominion which the banking institutions have obtained over the minds of our citizens...must be broken, or it will break us. Thomas Jefferson

(Letter to James Monroe, January 1, 1815).

Merchants have no country. The mere spot they stand on does not constitute so strong an attachment as that from which they draw their gains.

    Thomas Jefferson

Educate and inform the whole mass of the people... They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.

    Thomas Jefferson

Experience demands that man is the only animal which devours his own kind, for I can apply no milder term to the general prey of the rich on the poor.

    Thomas Jefferson

Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear.

    Thomas Jefferson

I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country.

    Thomas Jefferson

I know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them but to inform their discretion.

    Thomas Jefferson

Our country is now taking so steady a course as to show by what road it will pass to destruction, to wit: by consolidation of power first, and then corruption, its necessary consequence.

    Thomas Jefferson

I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever.

    Thomas Jefferson

  2. Which words?

  3. yes.  Legalize MARIJUANA.

  4. Consider some of Jefferson's words, and I think you'll agree: they're even better today than they were yesterday!

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants".

"When a man assumes a public trust he should consider himself public property".

"Banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies".

"War is an instrument entirely inefficient toward redressing wrong; and multiplies, instead of indemnifying, losses".

"When people fear government, it is tyranny. when government fears the people, it is liberty".

"In every country where man is free to think and speak, difference of opinion will arise from difference of perception, and the imperfection of reason; but these differences, when permitted, as in this happy country, to purify themselves by free discussion, are but as passing clouds overspreading our land, transiently and leaving our horizon more bright and serene".

"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty".

"Whenever any form of government becomes destructive, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it".

Jefferson was, perhaps, the wisest of our founding fathers. We owe him the honor and obligation to get off our collective couches, put down our remotes and stand up to fight and take our country back from the handful of wealthy elitists, corporate fat cats, industrialists, oil barons and power brokers who only want to become wealthier and more powerful - and who will stop at nothing to maintain the stranglehold they keep on a monopolistic, corrupt two-party system that allows voters little choice - and no voice - in our electoral process.

More than any one man, Jefferson realized that it requires courage, independent thinking, individualism and hard work to be a true patriot. Had he known what weak underbellies we would develop, Thomas Jefferson would almost certainly insisted that every American be required to take lifetime continuing education courses in democratic government and civics.  -RKO-   07/05/08

  6. He spent a whole life-time talking . I'm sure that many of his words are out-dated and no longer in use, but worry about it , we have other words to take their place .

  7. No, why would they be. The world today is alot different. Only what words he help to add to the constitution, and that in itself is going to be revised from time to time. True, an almost perfect document, there is no perfection in man!!!
