  1. I agree with B.E.C., the members of the royal family get a money allowance from the government ONLY IF THEY ARE PERFORMING ROYAL DUTIES as a full time job.

Princess Margaret (Queen Elizabeth  II sister, died 2002) needed parliament approval to marry Peter Townsend before she was 25 or she'd face loosing her title of HRH, her money allowance and her place in the line of succession

  2. They are hardly welfare recipients. You can thank Elizabeths' great grandmother Victoria for that. When she ascended the throne back in the 1830's,the royal family was almost broke and they were looked down upon by the British aristocracy. Victoria took what little money the family had and thru careful investments, grew the family fortune. That's how she bought and built Balmoral.

And in almost 200 years, the fortune has grown into the billions.

  3. No, As I understand it, they have large areas of land that provide income, and each has a skill that although they don't rely on for income, they are above all of the American welfare cheats. (I too am an American who is paying for more than my share of the Welfare thieves.)

  4. No they aren't welfare recepients;they actually do some work for the Civil List money they earn, money which is used to pay staff salaries. The Queen also has investments and an income from the Duchy of Lancaster. She doesn't need welfare.

goes through the Queen's working day.

I am American and think that the British brand of government works for them;they have a constitutional monarchy which involves sovereign and elected official. The Queen does work! But you will also find others who post here who agree with you.

  5. I'm not quite sure why QE is singled out for all of this abuse. the cost of the monarchy is roughly $80 million dollars a year. Many of monarchs around the world, especially muslim monarchs have expenditures that dwarf this number.

The Sultan  of Brunei owns 531 Mercedes Benzs, 367 Ferraris, 362 Bentleys, 185 BMWs, 177 Jaguars, 160 Porsches, 130 Rolls-Royces, and 20 Lamborghinis .For personal use, the sultan has a Boeing 747-400 furnished with gold plated furniture with an estimated value of $233 million including $3 million on furniture, six smaller planes and two helicopters. His official residence is the Istana Nurul Iman, with 1,788 rooms, 257 bathrooms, and a floor area of 2,152,782 square feet  undisputedly the world's largest palace.

Look at the Duke of Westminster. He inherited property and he is worth US$14 billion. And he hires prostitutes by the boatload.
