Aren't abandonned houses charged a higher insurance rate?

  1. Owners of unoccupied homes do pay a higher homeowners

    insurance premium than owners of homes that are occupied, but I would think that a vacant house that's been abandoned would not even have homeowners insurance on it.


  2. If you're talking about a house that is derelict and unfit for human habitation, you won't be able to get insured at all. If you talking about a house that has become vacant, you should be able to get it insured as long as the insurer is happy with what the plans are for the dwelling. However be prepared to pay a substantial amount for reduced coverage when compared to a regualr Homeowner's policy.
