Aren't humans a kind of pest? Like House Sparrows or Termites?

I mean, we call successful and overpopulated species "pests" even though us humans are successful and overpopulated - aren't we just pests similar to the ones that we think need some extermination to keep the population in check?

Honestly, I'm not an animal rights activist, I just think humans are getting out of control.

  1. not to worry. Our population will be controlled. We'll either do it to ourselves or the Earth will do it to us.

Of course, we could just have altruistic sorts volunteer to be exterminated so we could avoid all that. Or have a lottery. Or whack everybody with lower than average IQ's. And so on.

  2. I don't know but we spread like cockroaches when my boss walks in the door.

  3. That is why there are natural disasters to keep the population in check.

  4. From one pest to another: Yes, I find it a very appropriate analogy. Climate change and the extreme problems of the world's poor ,from starvation to diseases to natural disasters, receive so much media attention, but the CAUSE of these problems, overpopulation, is hardly addressed.
