They're a member of the crow family, but the have to be a bird of their own kind of they'd be called a crow. Right?

If they're not a member of their own kind, what is a better way to say they're different from crow?

  1. A raven is a raven. A Starling is a Starling. A crow is a crow. And there's one I believe is called a Grackle. All separate but look similar

  2. all birds are a specific species, but you also have family groups. Ravens are in the Corvid group along with crows, magpies, jackdaws and jays.

A way to put it would be to say "This birds Species is a Raven, it is a Corvid like a Crow and is similer in looks and habit."

Have a look at this website for a bit more info.

  3. Yes, a raven is a separate species from a crow.  However there are many different crow and raven species.  Here in the US, the most common raven and crow species are the American Crow, and the Common Raven.  Other raven species found in the US is the Chihuahuan Raven, and other crow species found in the US are the Fish Crow, Mexican Crow, and Northwestern Crow.
