OKLAHOMA CITY – An American Airlines flight from Boston to Los Angeles was diverted to Oklahoma City on Friday after a passenger stripped nude and later tried to open an emergency exit door before being subdued by members of a professional soccer team and others, the FBI said.

Members of the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer were among those who grabbed the passenger near an exit door, FBI spokesman Gary Johnson said. Tie wraps were placed on the man, whose name was not immediately released. He was taken into custody in Oklahoma City and placed under psychiatric evaluation, Johnson said.

American Flight 725, a Boeing 757, arrived in Oklahoma City at 1:35 p.m. CDT and was back in the air an hour later, said American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith. It landed without further incident at Los Angeles International Airport at 3:13 p.m. PDT.

  1. My brother who flys all over the country for his living, was bumped from a famous flight, not the twin towers, but one that crash landed and everyone died in years ago. so anyone one that helps to or escapes death or whatever, is very fortunate, and the Gods must be shining down on them, as with those on this AA flight, I bow down to them and the Gods!

  2. Everyone on the plane should be thankful for them. The young man was obviously had some mental issues he has to deal with especially if you're trying to committ suicide at 35,000 feet. So there are two things to be thankful for the men on the plane who stopped him and for saving the man from killing himself.

  3. hee hee... yes... it seems soccer players are as good with their hands as well as their feet

  4. I am thankful for any group that reacts the way they did, be they Soccer players, or ditch diggers.
