Arena Elvira goes 4 up in stakes races when she devoured longshot Afleet Lady in the Falls City Handicap
Carolyn Wilson owned 4-year-old filly Arena Elvira gave trainer Bill Mott his fourth win when she packed a mean punch in the Grade 2, $193,725 Falls City Handicap on 24 November, 2011, over at a distance of 1 1/8 miles over the dirt track of Churchill Downs.
The Kentucky bred daughter of Ghostzapper, out of mare Two Item Limit by Twining, Arena Elvira was bidding for her fourth win on the trot in stakes company before starting in the Falls City Handicap. The mission was accomplished and she has shot up her winning
column for the year 2011 to 6 wins out of 8 starts, and finishing on the board twice.
The Northwest Farms bred 4-year-old filly has really come to her own in the 2011 season taking on whatever is thrown to her and winning it with ease.
Arena Elvira was coming off a win in the Grade 3 Turnback the Alarm Handicap, her first graded stakes race and her first graded stakes win in the race which she won easily.
Romped past her opponents to win the race by 6 ¾ lengths over her closest opponent Check Point and Go Unbridled who finished second at Aqueduct race course on 4 November, 2011,at about 1 1/8 miles with the winning time of 1 minute and 51.59 seconds.
In 2010 Arena Elvira failed to break her maiden at Saratoga, she attempted twice but in vain. The year though she can’t get enough of Saratoga’s dirt course.
She won her stakes debut there, the Madame Jumel Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on 5 August, 2011, defeating Acronym and Sweet N Sour Nina on the way, both finished second and third respectively while Arena Elvira wrapped up the race in 1 minute and 51.84 seconds.
Sightseek Stakes was Arena Elvira’s second start at Saratoga this year, and didn’t she welcome the opportunity to go 2 up in as many starts at the venue this year.
Over her new found favoured distance of 1 1/8 miles, Arena Elvira finished off Satans Quick Chick in second and Lacie Slew in third while she romped to victory with the winning time of 1 minute and 51.41 seconds.
