Arena Elvira to go for her fourth stakes win on the trot in the Go for Wand Handicap at Aqueduct
The Grade 2, $150,000 Go for Wand Handicap has reeled in a formidable lineup of 9 three-year-old and beyond fillies and mares to fight it out over the 1 mile long event at Aqueduct on 25, November, 2011.
One filly that stands out from the rest based on recent performances is the 4-year-old Bill Mott trained filly called Arena Elvira who has been undefeated in her last three starts, and will be going for a fourth stakes win on the trot in the Go for Wand
Handicap.
Owned by Carolyn Wilson and bred by Northwest Farms in Kentucky, Arena Elvira is the daughter of Ghostzapper, out of mare Two Item Limit by Twining, has had seven starts in 2011 alone where she managed to topple fields almost at will sometimes.
Dwelling in maiden weight special races to pave her path into stakes races, Arena Elvira in 2010 attempted to break her maiden thrice, but the dreaded second place position wasn’t good enough to give her the license to run against top company.
Her last race broke the second best sequence once and for all as she broke away to win her maiden special weight race at Aqueduct, a venue she seems to like the most.
Arena Elvira kicked off her 2011 season with in an allowance claimer, and she kept running in the same division for three more races, finishing third twice and managing a single win at Belmont Park in between.
Bill Mott had seen enough of her to try her in Stakes Company just to see how it goes and it turned out brilliantly for him and the filly as she embraced the opportunity to nail 3 of 3.
Stretched out in distance from a mile to 1 1/8 miles, Arena Elvira’s amazing turn of foot helped her win the Madame Jumel Stakes at Saratoga in August.
Staying at the Spa, Arena Elvira defeated Satans Quick Chick in the Sightseek Stakes in September, with the winning time of 1 minute and 51.41 seconds for 1 1/8 miles.
Shipping her back to Aqueduct, Arena Elvira for the first time ran among graded stakes company when she represented her connections in the Grade 3 Turnback the Alarm Stakes and picked up where she left from Saratoga.
She will break from post number 6, band in the middle of 9 other fillies and mares under J Lezcano carrying top weight of 120 pounds.
