They make it sound like its such a new thing and as if trying to save the planet is something people havent been trying to do for like the last 30 years and stuff. They used to make fun of people who were recycling and eating natural and organic things stuff like granola munchers. We'll look who has become tne new granola muncher can you say pot calling kettle black? I mean they were so quick to judge these people like oh there so silly and they are wasting there time but they realize it was a very serious thing some people saw concern for before it turned into this so fashionable thing to do.I suppose it is better late than never while there are some icebergs left and polar bears in the wild.I dont know how much more obvious the world is going to h**l in a hand basket ...............

  1. Please explain how eating granola bars and icebergs with polar bears all fit into the same line?

  2. the way  most of my friends feel and myself ,

    goes way back,

long before global warming was even heard of

been working with things related to the Environment for 30 odd years, and the attitude has not deviated much from the original one.concern for the Environment has been there for a long time ,nothing to do with Global warming

i don`t think that is hypocritical

  3. I don't think it's hypocritical. Changing your mind due to new facts is not being a hypocrite. It's learning.

The ones who are hypocritical are the ones who talk about it but do nothing. As someone else said, the ones driving SUVs while buying organic, or driving a Prius while living in a McMansion. Hypocrisy has much more to do with your current beliefs compared to your current actions.

  4. I agree. So many of the people that are now calling themselves "green" are complete hypocrites. My favorites are the ones who have a Prius and a 3500 square foot newly built McMansion, like the car is going to even out the toxic building materials in their homes, and the complete waste of energy for cathedral ceilings!  My brother is sort of like that. They built a solar water heater and put in solar panels, but they fly several states away a couple times a month for dinner!  They recycle, but still buy tons of stuff in plastic containers that cannot be reused. He used to be very energy conscious and lived well under his means, but once he started working for an airline, he became a huge hypocrite. His "free passes" to fly on commercial airlines have made him have the worst carbon footprint of anyone I know personally.

We aren't perfect. Our electricity bill is high, but part of that is from a home office, and my hubby's car restoration workshop. We try to make up for that by never using chemical applications on our yard or garden, growing our own food in the summer, and we are building a greenhouse to grow crops all winter. We had to tear down an old barn that had a bad foundation, but we have done it all by hand, recycling every bit of metal including nails, and 6 buildings have been built out of the wood. Nothing has gone in the garbage, and we didn't burn it down like most people told us to. We took it down, piece by piece, using only human power. We have planted over 300 trees in our yard, so someday this four acres will be totally shaded. People are always asking how we get our grass so green and have such a productive garden, and it is a simple matter of no chemicals, effective composting, and reusing our bunny's bedding and p**p as fertilizer and soil amendments.

This really gets me fired up!  About 16 months ago, we made a pledge to ourselves to stay home at least 3 weekends a month and not drive. One weekend we do drive just to get a little culture and go shopping or antiquing. Our energy bills are less now than they were five years ago, because we consume so much less. And you know the real kicker?  These aging granola heads are HAPPIER this way!

  5. You should just be happy that more people are becoming more conscious of their impact on the planet.  Come on, all you're doing is trying to say, "see, I told you so" to everyone.  Having that attitude is not doing anything to save the planet, it's going to take more than just you, so be nice and forgive.....that will do wonders for everybody.

  6. You mean like Al Gore and his twenty room plus eight bath mansion or his other two homes?  Or do you mean those global warming enthusiasts Mr and Mrs Brad Pitt who recently bought a 3.5 million dollar home in New Orleans?

  7. It's fashionable, it's the new "in" thing, like pet rocks.

This is why corporations are now marketing heavily towards this attitude.  By tapping into the emotions, corporations are reaping record profits including millions in corporate welfare.

  8. I agree.  I've been a  'tree hugger' since back in the 60's, long before it became politically correct.  I does seem to me that the new 'greenies' are misinformed and lacking any true conviction.

Like their Potemkin leader AlGore, they lack substance.

  9. It's an interesting question. What I think is even more interesting is the people who make it their life's mission to not care at all. The people who get a pack of gum and have the clerk put in a bag. The yuppies who drive Escalades, but then eat organic food. The people who run the dishwasher with two dishes in it. It goes on and on.

My world would be different. I think things have come a long way since Silent Spring environmentally in some ways, but disposable living has far outrun most benefits from the movement. I'll keep trying till I die however. And then they can plant me in one of those forests and put a little marker in and the worms can have at me as I become part of the detritus.
